It is used in combination with nutritional therapy to treat the following: Prevention of the risk of cardiovascular disease in hypercholesterolemic patients with coronary heart disease or those at risk of coronary artery disease: Reduction of rates of heart disease (myocardial infarction and coronary/non-coronary revascularization procedures) and mortality ; and reduce the risk of stroke. Hyperlipidemia: To reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, very-low-density lipoprotein, and increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia. Familial hypercholesterolemia
